Imperial College London is looking for 8 – 12 year olds to join to join a writing and drawing activity.
The activity involves the following tasks:
1) Firstly, you will be asked to write a story that summarises a hospital experience. This story should be short and concise within 150 words.
2) Secondly, we ask you to translate your experience into story-telling and sketching activity. The story can be as long or as short as you like, and should have the following “Missions”:
a. Mission # 1: Creating a SuperBetter secret identity/character as the hero of this adventure. This can be anyone they want from any story they love.
b. Mission # 2: Recruiting allies. Every superhero has a side kick or an inner circle of friends who help save the day.
c. Mission #3: Finding the bad guys. To win the battle, you will need to describe what they’re up against (this could be e.g. a specific health condition).
d. Mission #4: Identifying power-powers. You will be asked to make a list and be ready to call on them whenever the bad guys are getting the better of them.
e. Mission #5: Creating a superhero to-do list and/or obstacles to overcome. Everything on the list should be something that would make you feel great and show off their strengths.
f. Mission #6: Creating a drawing of one of the main characters (i.e. super-hero, ally, bad guy).
If you are happy to participate the 10 best drawings will be digitalised by an award-winning children illustrator, while the best three drawings of characters will be brought to life with a custom-made soft toy!
Winners will be sent the prizes and asked to send a picture of their prize and their original drawing to the research team, alongside a permission for us to publish the story and pictures on e.g. Imperial College’s website or a booklet.
